Mechanical Design Engineer / Checker
Develop metrics to assess design quality and defects throughout the life-cycle. Analyze nonconformance data and support Corrective Action Boards to address nonconformance trends attributed to design issues. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of design quality guidance and requirements. Interface with design and manufacturing teams for flight hardware and ground support equipment. Quality engineers are also responsible for the creation of documentation that reports issues and errors relating to the production process with efforts placed to find a solution.
Minimum of a B.S. in engineering or technical field 3+ years' relevant experience in a design or manufacturing engineering field; Strong familiarity of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing; Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs; Knowledge of Design Control activities and best practices; Experience reviewing engineering with a high attention to detail; Ability to methodically reduce complex technical jargon into concise instructions; Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Knowledge of quality and statistical analysis tools (e.g. SPC, Six Sigma, Risk Analysis, FMEA, DEO, trend analysis, etc.). Ability to identify problems, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions. Skilled oral and written communicator. Ability to work well in teams. Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs; advanced level Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
Relevant experience in transitioning a product from development, through production to operations Relevant experience in AS9145, Advanced Product Quality Planning and Production Part Approval Process; Experience creating actionable metrics meeting organizational goals; Aerospace, space launch, or military or commercial aviation experience; Experience in Quality performance metrics analysis; American Society of Quality, Certified Quality Engineer certification
