Connected & Automated Vehicle (CAV) Research Engineer

 

Job Duties

Research new technologies & create new application idea for CAV technology: 

·         Research new communication technologies and/or new techniques to improve existing wireless technologies such as DSRC and/or cellular, for safety, mobility and other transportation related applications

·         Research new sensor capabilities to improve or create new functions for automated vehicle system

·         Participate CAV research strategy creation activity

·         Participate internal/external brainstorming meetings to generate new application ideas

·         Collaborate with device vendors, industry consortiums, universities, or other internal departments

·         Perform hands-on duties such as electrical wiring or mechanical installations such as building test vehicles and implement the new technology and/or applications

·         Conduct both in-lab and in-vehicle test and data analysis

 

Required Qualifications

Education Minimum

Bachelor’s degree (a 4 year degree) in any one of the following disciplines, or in a similar discipline:

·         Computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, traffic engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics

 

Preferred

·         Education in a combination of multiple disciplines

·         Higher degree(s) (PhD)

 

Experience/Knowledge

Minimum (ALL of the following:)

·         Programming in C or C++

·         Programming of embedded devices

·         General engineering experimental and analytical skills using common tools

·         Ability to interface devices at hardware level, especially within vehicle. For example: ability to build wiring harnesses and route wiring between the communication devices and the main ITS platform, design and build simple in-car mounting fixtures etc.

 

Preferred:

·         Familiarity with either telematics, networking, wired, wireless, in-vehicle, or V2V V2I communications protocols (examples: 3G, 4G LTE, 5G, UDP, IEEE802.11, CAN, V2V, V2I, V2X )

·         Programming for interfacing between devices (some examples: reading sensor via serial port, processing an analog signal)

·         Experience programming within Unix-based operating systems, such as Linux

·         Programming in Matlab

·         Traffic simulation tool such as sumo
